Students and Staff had an amazing time on the A Level Art and Design London Art Trip 2014.

A  jam packed series of gallery visits meant that students and staff were creatively invigorated if not physically and mentally exhausted!

We traveled up by train stayed at Beit Hall right next to the Albert Hall! Then it was straight on to the Galleries!

Day 1. Visit to the Pavilion at the Serpentine Gallery an amazing, contemporary Architectural structure! National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, Courtauld Gallery, then a quick trip through China Town on our way to the Whitechapel Gallery and First Thursdays, an exciting event where all the hippest independent Galleries in the East End stay open till late!

Day 2. The Royal Academy Summer Show – Everyone’s favourite! Cork Street, Tate Modern – the amazing Matisse show!
Jean Paul Gautier at the Barbican, truly inspiring for our fashion students!

Day 3. Natural History Museum a brilliant resource for drawing, the V&A for the Glamour of Italian Fashion show, and the Barbican for the Digital Revolution show!

student quote

“Tate Modern photo. Silhouettes of Lily and Joanna, post viewing the fantastic Matisse show which was full of colour and fun, and reminded me of the joy of art and the power of natural lines, shapes and colours. Thank you for a fabulous trip, so glad I came.”  Imogen Allen

Students also went shopping and visited different exhibitions as well! Phew, how did we do it all?! The first night almost everyone went to the Lahore Kebab House for one of the finest Curries the East End has to offer, everyone agreed this was almost worth the Trip alone! Special thanks to the Curator at the Illustration Cupboard who let some of our students handle the amazing etchings in the collection, many of them worth tens of thousands of pounds! An exciting if not daunting experience!

Yet again this was a truly inspiring trip where students were inspired, not only by the Art, but by the environment and different cultures, also lots of new friendships were made!

“My Favourite thing was the Matisse Exhibition at Tate Modern – He’s a renowned fine artist with no fear of pattern or colour, probably the best exhibition I’ve ever seen.” Minnie Bunce

“I had an amazing time in London, I was able to make many new friends, eat lots of delicious food, have the amazing opportunity to visit many beautiful galleries & exhibits, & be inspired by London itself and it’s art & design.” Chui Yee Lee

Can’t wait to do it all over again next year!

Meet the Staff – Amy Lanyon – Printmaker

You`ve seen what we do and what our students do, so now its time to meet some of the talented folks who run the show.
First up is our art and print technician extraordinaire – Amy Lanyon.

“My work evolves from a sequence of processes and exploration of media to produce primarily shape based and abstract compositions. None of my pieces are named and this is for a reason. I want the viewer to interpret the piece themselves, without me influencing them. Part of my enjoyment of producing abstract pieces is to listen to how my work makes people feel, so by leaving my pieces anonymous, I know that I am not influencing their thoughts.”

Her fabulous work can be seen at her website here. Or if you are coming to Truro College next September you can say Hi! in person.

Truro College Fine Art A Level Alumni

One of our past A Level students Harriet Poznansky a recent Slade School of Art, Fine Art Graduate, came to give a talk to our current students!

Harriet recounted her progression through AS/A2 Fine Art here at Truro, her foundation in Art in London and her Degree at the Slade. It was so inspiring to hear a first-hand account of her experiences and see the work that she had produced.

For her next adventure Harriet is off to make Art in San Francisco! Good luck Harriet, so great to catch up with past students!

Check out Harriet’s work on her website!
