Beyond Truro College – Holly Young

Next in our series on past students is successful and talented milliner Holly Young.
Graduating in Costume Design for the Performing Arts from the London College of Fashion in 2006, Holly lived and worked in London for five years before moving back to her roots in Cornwall. Whilst studying, she interned with the English National Opera Millinery department. On graduating she worked for avant-garde milliner Justin Smith (maker of Angelina Jolie’s horns in Maleficent) and The English National Ballet as a dresser to the dancers. She then went on to work for top milliner Philip Treacy producing headwear for Paris and London couture fashion weeks. Holly has also worked for Royal Milliner Jane Taylor during Ascot and other busy periods. Her most recent accolade are the thirty hats that she was commissioned to make by Warner Brothers for the Mathew Vaughn film, Secret Service, which will be out in 2015.

In her own words – “Truro College was the first step on my career journey. The art and design ND let me really explore and develop my skills ready for further education and let me believe that anything was possible. I was encouraged 100% by all the tutors and head of department Martin Page to follow my interests and strengths.”
