Saturday Art Club Summer Show 2015

The Summer Show, the culmination of the Saturday Club year, was open from 5 -12 June in the Embankment Galleries at Somerset House. 3,500 people visited the exhibition and commended the high quality of work on display by over 1,200 Saturday Club members.
The highlight was the surprise appearance by Brit-nominated spoken word artist George the Poet who performed his poem ‘All Existence is Contribution’ to a rapt audience at the private view on 9 June. Earlier this year, George led a project with the Saturday Club at Camberwell, Chelsea & Wimbledon Creative Hub, organised by the Caspian Arts Foundation.
Our guest speaker was Darren Henley OBE, who took over as chief executive of Arts Council England in April. Darren said “The National Art&Design Saturday Club is opening the eyes and minds of young people all over the country to exciting skills and techniques that artists and designers use and to the possibilities of a career in the creative industries, which generate £76bn for the economy each year”.
The real VIP events took place over the weekend of 6 & 7 June, when over 1,200 Club members, their families, tutors and student assistants attended their own private views and a special – and very noisy! – ceremony to celebrate their achievements.

Fantastic work all round, amazing to see what young people can achieve! The Club kept my daughter excited to get up every Saturday
Commented one proud parent.

Many others echoed this sentiment, and were keen to support their children’s decisions to studying creative subjects and follow a career in the creative industries.

The layout was so professional and to see my work in that context was a real privilege.”
Isabel, Club member.

Roll on this years club, running once again here at Truro College.
