This week second year Design Pathway students on the Extended Diploma did a workshop with set designer @scenographer_fiona_chivers following a visit to @breezeartmakersfair. The students worked with Fiona to develop their initial ideas for a live brief they are doing, to create a set design for La Bohēme, as part of the Design Challenge run by @royaloperahouse. Thank you to all involved.
Second Year FdA Silversmithing and Jewellery students were practicing their engraving.
Foundation Art & Design students @truro_penwith learnt about creative use of destructive techniques by manipulating negatives in the dark room as part of their Serendipity brief.
Foundation Art and Design Ideas and Concepts students @truro_penwith were taken out of their comfort zone during an experimental drawing task using their bodies… the results were great!

Saturday Art Club – Plymouth Masterclass

Last month Truro College SAC along with the clubs from Cornwall College and Plymouth College of Art attended a sculpture masterclass.
Making large inflated sculptures this masterclass was taught by Thomas Randell-Page who teaches architecture in a London college.
After a talk the members worked/drew ideas on long piece of paper for their creation. Members from each college were mixed up into several groups. Working with people from different colleges they designed and made a large sculpture out of thick polythene sheet, these were then joined together and inflated with fans to create their finished sculptures. I think the kids enjoyed getting inside the inflated sculptures.
The group was then given a demonstration of glass blowing.
Everyone had a great day, and their fabulous work is shown below.

Shed Shed Shed lovely Sheds

What do you do with a load of scrap wood ? Make a shed !

Inspired by George Clarke’s T.V programme (Shed of the Year, Channel 4) the Saturday Art club designed and made for wooden buildings.
It was quite a challenge to produce something in 2 hours from scratch but the students rose to the challenge. There was a frenzy of sawing and gluing, and the production of some imaginative constructions.

Making Ocarinas

This week the Saturday Art Club were working with clay to produce Ocarinas ( little clay Flutes )
Inspired by the film `The Silence of Ani` by Francis Alys . He filmed a group of young people in the ancient and ruined city of Ani, on the border between Armenia and Turkey. They were given different bird whistles and with their calls brought life back to the ruins.
