AROUND THE DEPARTMENT 8/11

This week second year Design Pathway students on the Extended Diploma did a workshop with set designer @scenographer_fiona_chivers following a visit to @breezeartmakersfair. The students worked with Fiona to develop their initial ideas for a live brief they are doing, to create a set design for La Bohēme, as part of the Design Challenge run by @royaloperahouse. Thank you to all involved.
Second Year FdA Silversmithing and Jewellery students were practicing their engraving.
Foundation Art & Design students @truro_penwith learnt about creative use of destructive techniques by manipulating negatives in the dark room as part of their Serendipity brief.
Foundation Art and Design Ideas and Concepts students @truro_penwith were taken out of their comfort zone during an experimental drawing task using their bodies… the results were great!
And some amazing drawings produced in the Life Drawing Art Academy this week also.

Making Ocarinas

This week the Saturday Art Club were working with clay to produce Ocarinas ( little clay Flutes )
Inspired by the film `The Silence of Ani` by Francis Alys . He filmed a group of young people in the ancient and ruined city of Ani, on the border between Armenia and Turkey. They were given different bird whistles and with their calls brought life back to the ruins.

Ceramic Patchwork

Second Year Extended Diploma Students on the Design pathway reassembled damaged and unwanted crockery inspired by the work of Zoe Hillyard.

They wrapped each fragment with salvaged fabrics, stitching by hand to reassemble them into newly constructed forms.

During the project we have focused on working solely with salvaged materials to create woven and constructed textiles.

ceramic cities

Our Saturday clubs latest work has been in ceramics.
This years theme is the `Home` so why not make our own, in the form of a ceramic city!
Renown local sculptor Reece Ingram was on hand as tutor as the students designed and created clay tiles upon which buildings were then sat. These tiles all interlinked once fired to create a fantastic cityscape, pictured below.

Bakers Dozen – selected postcard images 2018

Only a few weeks to go before we host our annual art and design show on the piazza in Truro.
Each year the show wows crowds and us alike. Showcasing the best creative talent from our department from graphic design to fine art and everything in between.
The thirteen (Bakers Dozen – this being our 13th show!) images here have all been selected to adorn our postcard series this year, each one representing the various course paths in a stunning visual.
These will be available to collect at the show, so head on down from the 22nd May, to Lemon Quay Piazza, Truro, Cornwall and take a look at our students creations. You won`t be disappointed.
