Bakers Dozen – selected postcard images 2018

Only a few weeks to go before we host our annual art and design show on the piazza in Truro.
Each year the show wows crowds and us alike. Showcasing the best creative talent from our department from graphic design to fine art and everything in between.
The thirteen (Bakers Dozen – this being our 13th show!) images here have all been selected to adorn our postcard series this year, each one representing the various course paths in a stunning visual.
These will be available to collect at the show, so head on down from the 22nd May, to Lemon Quay Piazza, Truro, Cornwall and take a look at our students creations. You won`t be disappointed.

Carol O`Toole Oil Painting Workshop pt2

The results of the second day of the oil painting workshop speak for themselves! We were so impressed with the progress all of our students made under the expert tutelage of Carol. Most students had never worked in oils and it was extremely inspiring to witness there fearlessness and ambition in approaching their task. The room was awash with vibrant colour, however you could have heard a pin drop, such was the concentration! Well… if that’s what our students can achieve after only two days, we have a real treat in store over the coming months!

We must again express our gratitude to Carol, whose professionalism, gentle humour, knowledge, warmth and enthusiasm for our students progress made each day a sheer pleasure!

Beyond Truro College – Anika Manuel

Our next post college student success is Anika Manuel –

“My name is Anika Manuel and I currently live and work in Cornwall. At Truro College I studied the A level in Fine Art which was taught by Tristan Sherwood and Louise Walter, this gave me the opportunity to develop my interest in art and the basic skills I had. I particularly remember being taught how to use acrylic paint and this, along with my personal study and the knowledge gained from my History of Art A level, ultimately influenced my career as a portrait painter in the years following. At college I developed an interest in figurative painting, and then concreted this area of specialisation on the foundation diploma that I went on to study. I greatly enjoyed the level of experimentation on the course and encouragement provided from the tutors and it was on the recommendation from Gareth Edwards, my painting tutor, that I went on to apply and get accepted for a BA (Hons) Fine Art degree at Chelsea College of Art and Design in London. After graduating with a First, I came back to Cornwall as a self employed Fine artist with a gallery in London that exhibits my portraits internationally. My practice involves creating realistic depictions of the human figure (often celebrities) and this work is currently on show at The Moreton Gallery in the Cotswolds, as well as through Degreeart (http://www.degreeart.com/users/anika-manuel) All of my work can be viewed on my website www.anikamanuel.com or through my Facebook page: Anika Manuel Artist.

To all students currently studying the arts the best advice I could offer would be to persist, as long as you have a passion for art and you believe in what you are doing then you can make a successful career out of doing something that you love.”

Wise words!
