Our new term kicked of in fine style today with all our new, excited and creative students.
The White building was a hive of activity with the new term buzz in the air.
After tutor session the students faced their first challenge, the annual paper tower build.
In groups they constructed two towers from newspaper, linked by a bridge.
The `twist` – roll a raw egg from one side to the other!
Did the eggs survive? Of course!
Success, and they`re are off to a flying start.
Last Saturday was the final session in the two day oil painting workshop led by local artist Carol O’Toole.
A- level students continued in the painting activities but were also introduced to ideas around glazing, introducing veils of semi transparent colour to their creative repertoire. It was exciting to see how far the students have come in such a short time and we can’t wait to see further paintings!
Our thanks again to Carol for her warmth, encouragement and expertise. An invaluable experience for all!

Local Artist Carol O’Toole led the first session of a two day oil painting workshop (running two consecutive Saturdays).
Carol led Fine Art A Level students through the basics, including materials, processes and colour mixing.
The results from day one were astounding! Well done students, thanks Carol, same time next week?! Can’t wait!
Only a few weeks to go before we host our annual art and design show on the piazza in Truro.
Each year the show wows crowds and us alike. Showcasing the best creative talent from our department from graphic design to fine art and everything in between.
The thirteen (Bakers Dozen – this being our 13th show!) images here have all been selected to adorn our postcard series this year, each one representing the various course paths in a stunning visual.
These will be available to collect at the show, so head on down from the 22nd May, to Lemon Quay Piazza, Truro, Cornwall and take a look at our students creations. You won`t be disappointed.
The results of the second day of the oil painting workshop speak for themselves! We were so impressed with the progress all of our students made under the expert tutelage of Carol. Most students had never worked in oils and it was extremely inspiring to witness there fearlessness and ambition in approaching their task. The room was awash with vibrant colour, however you could have heard a pin drop, such was the concentration! Well… if that’s what our students can achieve after only two days, we have a real treat in store over the coming months!
We must again express our gratitude to Carol, whose professionalism, gentle humour, knowledge, warmth and enthusiasm for our students progress made each day a sheer pleasure!
A Level students enjoyed their first day of oil painting with local artist Carol O’Toole on Saturday 2nd Dec. The students were introduced to some principles of oil painting and were encouraged to explore colour mixing using a limited range of colours.
We couldn’t believe the results from day one, we cannot wait to see what they achieve next week! Amazing work, well done!
