digital montage

Today`s photography workshop session was all about new blending with old.
Using Photoshop the students were tasked with creating a digital photomontage.
They referenced the work of Hannah Hoch (dadaism) and Peter Blake (pop art) to create montages based on themes, nature, outer space etc.
Using digital tools instead of scissors and glue they created there own homage to the montage.

Altered States – photomontage

Our 2nd year L3 Extended Diploma students spend a term studying an extra skill, one of these is photographic techniques.
These range from digital portraits to darkroom skills and this week – photomontage.
The students looked at work from Dadaism, Hockney, Angret Soltau and John Stezaker as inspiration for their pieces. They then took digital images and overworked them in various ways. Using colour, mixed media and sewing they created a range of outcomes in a style of their choice.
The results above show great creativity and understanding, nice job!

Pinhole Perfection

Well it`s nearly half-term here at Truro College and everyone’s been busy being creative over the past few weeks.
The photography class has spent this time learning and practicing analogue photography skills such as photograms, using the 35mm film SLR`s and these beautiful pinhole images.
Pinhole photography is a simple technique that is difficult to master. Using only ambient light and cameras made from a box with no lens, creating the images can be a bit of trial and error but when it works the results, like those above, can be awesome.
