TEXTILES FASHION – A LEVEL

Course introduction

Do you enjoy drawing and designing garments and accessories, as well as the challenge of bringing your ideas to life through making? The Textiles Fashion course will encourage you to develop a creative and experimental approach to contemporary fashion design and garment making. You will learn how to develop innovative solutions to a fashion design brief through in-depth research, experimentation and sample making. Your personal creativity and interests will be reflected through the opportunity to design garments for the worlds of couture fashion, costume and accessory design.

What will I learn? You will learn a diverse range of skills including fashion drawing, how to drape and model a garment on a dress form, pattern making, how to select appropriate fabrics and fibres, together with garment construction techniques. You will explore how historic and contemporary fashion designers communicate their ideas and how fashion is influenced by social and political events. Working in sketchbooks, you will evidence your evolving skills and knowledge, fashion terms and ideas, documenting and constantly reflecting on your creative development.
